Late last night while listening to some tunes I decided to head over to my now higher priced Sirius XM subscription also known as the highway robbery package and check out a different channel for my listening pleasure. The channel I landed on briefly was playing a varying blend of pop-ish hits, mostly older from the likes of Journey, Madonna, etc so I decided to keep it on for a few. As the latest hit was nearing its end, and I was starting to feel my age a bit, the mood changed to something rather groovy and old school. Out of nowhere, Slow Hand by the Pointer Sisters came funneling through the airwaves. I got distracted with what I was doing momentarily when this track started to play, a tune that frankly I hadn’t heard in years, yet a lovely song nonetheless. But now, for those next 3 minutes and 52 seconds, I spent my time trying not to laugh as my perverted sense of thought immediately couldn’t help but wander and wonder on those lyrics alone.
So, picture this; 1981.
All these women wanted was a man with a slow hand, an easy touch and someone not in a rush. All I could think was how drastically times have changed. Now here we are in 2022, singing the blues and looking for a fast lad to basically plunder our jewels, burgle your business and get the fuck outta dodge! When did some of us women say to hell with romance, slow love-making and instead say; hey, how you doing!? To rough romps and backdoor burglaries? Is sweet sex a thing of the past along with pubic hair and pantyhose or along with a little pain does there really come some pleasure? All in all, I had some enjoyment walking briefly down memory lane and really surmising the great joys of both the past and present. Sure, each scenario has its potential ups and downs (no pun intended), but I think most of us can agree; slowing things down and speeding them up have their own spectacular perks!
